Collections
The International Institute of American Studies has collected all materials concerning America such as books, microform, historical records, and encyclopedias. The institute has been making these materials available to scholars, students, and general public since its foundation in 1958. Combined with the Graduate School of Global Studies, the library's collections is one of the finest in Japan.
The collections of books and research materials in the institute far exceed those held by similar institutes in Japan as well as in other countries. The collections at the institute are truly academic assets of Doshisha University.
The collection includes original and reprinted primary sources, papers of American Presidents and other notable figures, statistical materials, and governmental publications (e.g. Foreign Relations of the United States, from 1861 to the present).
Visual materials including pictures, photocopy of drawings, videotapes, DVDs, and about 2100 slides of early American Art history are available in the library. These visual materials are occasionally used for teaching aid for schools and universities.
